Huntington Middle School Orchestra
Principal Gary McGuigan revived the orchestra program at Huntington Middle School in 2001, and it has since flourished under the direction of music teacher and conductor Rob Folsom.
The program has grown from a single group made up of 25 students to a beginning orchestra, an advanced orchestra and a chamber orchestra encompassing more than 60 students.
Each year the orchestras play in a variety of venues, including three major public performances at Huntington School.
The advanced orchestra has performed a range of challenging selections including the Grieg Piano Concerto, Aaron Copeland's Hoedown from Rodeo, and Bach's Concerto for Two Violins.
Every year since 2006 the advanced orchestra has participated and earned top honors in competitive music festivals.
In April 2009, the advanced orchestra performed at Carnegie Hall as part of the National Band and Orchestra Festival sponsored by Heritage Festivals and Field Studies Center of New York.
In April 2010, the orchestra performed at Schlesinger Concert Hall in Alexandria, Virginia, as part of a benefit concert to raise funds for UNICEF's relief efforts in Haiti.

Our parents play an important part in the success of the orchestra through the Orchestra Club, which organizes concerts, raises funds for the orchestra, arranges for audio video recordings of performances, coordinates trips to music festivals, and more.
